How to sheathe the walls of a bath with clapboard

The lining is easy to assemble - this is one of the main advantages of the material. Sheathe the walls of the steam room with clapboard is not difficult if you have at least minimal experience in finishing work. And even if you plan to entrust this task to professionals, read this article - it will be easier for you to control the quality of the master's work.

The lining in the steam room can be mounted both vertically and horizontally. The algorithm of work is approximately the same, with the exception of some nuances. Vertical planks are installed faster, condensation easily flows down the surface of the boards. The horizontal method has other advantages: the boards are mounted with the spike upwards, so the joints are more airtight and do not allow condensation to pass through. If necessary, the horizontal plank can be replaced without touching the rest of the planks.

Clapboard sheathing: wall preparation

The first crate for insulation. The basis for wall decoration is a lathing of wooden bars. The distance between the bars should be determined by the width of the thermal insulation boards or mats so that the insulation falls into the gap in the openings. The bars can be mounted directly to the wall or on brackets. It is important to do this work with a level to compensate for wall imperfections and create a level base for fine sheathing.

Thermal insulation. Before finishing cladding, you need to insulate the wall - lay a layer of thermal insulation. First, a heater is placed (as a rule, it is mineral wool), then a foil layer of vapor barrier.

Counter lattice for lining. In order for the insulation to perform its functions correctly, you need to leave a ventilation gap between the insulation and the lining. For this, an additional lathing made of strips 25-30 mm thick is mounted on the foil surface. The slats are located perpendicular to the lining. The fixing step is 40-60 cm.

Mounting the lining - which mount to use

The easiest, but not the best, way is to nail the lining with copper or galvanized nails and seal the caps with wood putty. The method is bad in that it violates the structure of the material and reduces the service life of the lining. Over time, the fasteners will begin to rust and deform.

There is a better alternative to nails - clapboard fastening. These are metal fastening brackets, which are put on the edge of the tongue with a U-shaped part, screwed with self-tapping screws or fastened with a stapler to the crate - for this, mounting holes are provided on the clearer. This is the preferred method as the fasteners will not damage the board or compromise its integrity. If necessary, you can unscrew the clamps and easily dismantle the lining.

If the lining is located horizontally, then the installation begins from the ceiling to the floor, the boards are located with a groove down and a spike up. The lower plank should not rest on the floor - it is important to leave a gap of 1-2 cm, which will compensate for thermal deformations. At the corner joints, it is also advisable to leave a deformation gap in case of wood swelling. To make the cladding more aesthetically pleasing, the bottom and corner gaps can be decorated with thin wooden planks.

The result of the work will depend not only on the correct installation, but also on the quality of the material itself. The company "Tesli" makes lining from the best varieties of Ukrainian wood, offers a wide range of finishing materials for the steam room at competitive prices from the manufacturer.
